Jab We Met- 16th July 2011

The title of the post will sound mis-leading to many of my regular readers, so to make them avoid any disappointment after about 5 minutes of reading, I want to make it clear right at the onset that this is about 6 engineering college-mates meeting after more than a decade...

The event was originally scheduled for 9th July 2011, and was postponed to 16th July 2011, as for a couple of members it was not possible to join at that date...And guess, whatever happens, happens for good...Parag Srivastava could come to meet us due to that and also Avinash, who just came from USofA a few days back...

Myself and Atanu Sir used to regularly discuss the people whom we could get to the event, from Pune as well as Bombay, but it seemed the total tally could be finalised only on the D-Day, as lots of people were still un-certain...

And so around 1600 hrs on 16th July, it became final that 6 of us would be meeting...

Parag, Avinash, Manish Sir, Mitesh Sir, Atanu Sir and myself...

It started raining in the morning in Pune yesterday and my first thought was that, all hell should not break loose today only, as we had to meet. There was a definite reason to worry, there have been so many  "KLPD" incidents in my life that, on important occasions like this, I start praying "C'mon, not one more time..."

But yes, yesterday was different and much better day for me I guess. The rain trickled down to a drizzle by the time I was scouting for a place at FC Road, and it was even kind of fun to walk in it...

I called up Parag in the afternoon to confirm his presence but apparently it was raining heavily in Bombay at that time and it was very dicey that he would make it, but since he was based closer to Pune at Navi Mumbai, so instead of a 4 hour journey, he was actually only 2 hours away and even if he would have started at 5 PM, he would have made it...Thats the reasoning, I gave him...

There is a very definite co-relation between rains in Bombay and Pune. So when it is raining heavily in Bombay, its not raining in Pune and vice-versa...The Sahyadris do not allow the clouds to cross-over in other city. And that got me worried, as it was not raining in Pune at that time. For that matter, I would not have wished for rains to happen in Pune also...

It was a perfect "Kya pray karein, kya na pray karein..." situation for me...

As I was "Fatiyaing" on FC Road, I got a call from Parag that he has started for Pune and it was awesome...

I had a word with Avinash on 15th night about the meet, but he had some un-well guests, it was very difficult for him to make to the event...

One thing which could have worked was to get him at the place by promising that we would allow him to leave early...And after that...After that what?

Waisey bhi ek baar jo aa gaya, wo doston ko akela chhor kar to jaayega nahin ;)

So after Parag confirmed that he was coming, I gave him Avinash's number and requested him to talk to Avinash and convince him to come, even though for a short duration. I mean, its easy to turn-down one friend, it is very difficult to turn down two...

And the plan worked ;)

Avinash agreed to come down...

After "Fatiaying" for a couple of hours, one thing was certain that we need to start early as it was weekend and none of the restaurants were willing to book a table for us...

Parag came at around 1800 at JM Road and had to wait a bit as I was roaming on Karve Road, and finally we met at the rendezvous point at around 1845.

The name of the place was "Sun and Moon Restaurant and Bar", guess the only thing missing at that restaurant were "Stars" and guess we completed that... Its just off to the FC's Shivajinagar side gate...

Next came Atanu Sir and Manish Sir...Avinash arrived about 15 mins after that and then Mitesh Sir...

Handshakes and pleasantries were exchanged and a bit of introductions, or rather re-introductions...

And then the fluid started flowing and so the words and then memories...of all kind...

And we talked about Ragging, Professors, Career, Past Life, Present occupation, Fights at College, Crushes at college{ ;)}, Life and Ramit Basu, in no particular order...

Also, we proved that its not only the female of the species who can bitch...Bitching is our birth-right also :)

What we talked about could not be put-in here as this is a public blog, one feature which Zuckerberg can add is the "Notes" section in a group. If it would have been there, only the people in our group could have viewed it and this post would have been much racier and raunchier ;)
Ramit can though ring me up, on why I made a special mention of him ;)

And even after all these years, the memory and the bond is still intact, I mean if you have been ever to the Boot Camp, you never forget your buddies, right...

For us the college was the Boot-Camp of our lives...

Toasts were raised to Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook also, as it was the enabler in all of us meeting after more than a decade...

It was just like
If I had my way, I would have wanted "Ye tumhari meri baatein, hamesha yuin hi chalti rahein..." {Perks of being a bachelor} but then Parag had to go back to Bombay to catch a flight today and calls had started to pour-in on our cell-phones...

So with a heavy heart we parted, but with a promise to meet again...

We are planning an over-night getaway somewhere close to Pune-Mumbai corridor where even families can join...

Also, Avinash promised all of us to host soon at his new home, he got a promotion just a couple of days back, so he is bound to treat us..

And thus the twains met and then kept on meeting...

Amen !!!
