Completing 2 years in my present organisation: A milestone

So after almost 8.4 years and 5 Organisations, I am completing 2 years in the present organisation.

And trust me it has been a difficult task to do that, but then the time span had become large, so when you gotta do it; you gotta do it...
So, here I am, completing 2 years in my present assignment.

Life is all about learning, and learning every single day and when you find that you are not learning in your present assignment, its the time to look for a new opportunity.
If you are not learning every day then you are wasting your time for somebody's else and thats a crime, quit and look for new challenges.

Thats what I have done always.....

This time was no new, but then just wanted to cross the bridge; after that????

Be my own master- Founder&President......

So Google is interested in me???: I am on cloud 9 !!!

Now this is very flattering indeed for a rookie like me.....Google is interested in me ! ! !
There is somebody visiting my blog daily from the Google HQs at Mountain View, California.

Well, yeah once I said that I will beat Google and I still hold on to that statement.
One day I will beat Google.

They know how to integrate the business, they have integrated their business, both horizontally and vertically.
They started with an idea, but I have the full integration plan ready; before launch.

But then the zing which is missing in their plan is that, "The fortune lies at the bottom of the pyramid".

And this is the advantage which I have got being in a country like India, and thats where I will start my enterprise.

If you have to make it big and real big, you need to have an integration plan ready which integrates both hrizontally and vertically and most important it should focus on the bottom of the pyramid.
And thats what I will do....

Google you wanna join hand???

First month gone of 2010- Jan is over

So the new year came and even the first month is over, what worthwhile I managed to do in the first month??

Million dollar question...

Well, I managed to fulfill one of my new year resolutions finally and am happy for that. Apart from that nothing worthwhile, even after straining the few of the grey cells of my head.
Every single day it has been same bloody routine of the work-schedule.

Nights are left for dreaming and for working on those dreams, but its been going slow and I desperately need to do something about it.
At this rate even in Jan 2011, I would be still writing the same stuff and wondering why I am going so slow..

And yeah, I celebrated my birthday too......another worthy event.

The Bee Gees- 'To Love Somebody'

There's a light
A certain kind of light
That never shone on me
I want my life to lived with you
Lived with you
There's a way everybody say
To do each and every little thing
But what does it bring
If I ain't got you, ain't got ?
You don't know what it's like, baby
You don't know what it's like
To love somebody
To love somebody
To love somebody
The way I love you

There's brain
I see your face again
I know my frame of mind
You ain't got to be so blind
And I'm blind, so very blind
I'm a man, can't you see
What I amI live and breathe for you
But what good does it do
If I ain't got you, ain't got ?

Why do you need an Apple iPad? : Steve you got it wrong this time...

iPod created history and I still vividly remember reading its launch in ET, the next day.
A dedicated music device like that was not yet thought by anybody else till then. The best we knew was the Sony Walkman.

Slowly there were handphones coming in with increased memory size and the only utility of theirs at that moment was to store music and Steve got it right then, music is what connects all of us.
People were buying handphones with greater memory capacity because they wanted a personal digital music device, and apple grabbed at the opportunity.

Convergence was still a little behind and there was enough money to be made in a dedicated personal digital music player with some great UI thrown in.
And the world went ga ga over it and rest as they say is history...

iPod was a revolution, it brought to us a never before product, called a "digital music player".

After the success of iPod, everyone was deeply anticipating a killer product once again, from Apple.
I remember there were fa…

Truth never changes - Still so true - Abraham Lincoln's letter to his son's Headmaster

Abraham Lincoln's letter to his son's Headmaster

" He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, all men are not true. But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero: that for every selfish politician, there is a dedicated leader…. Teach him that for every enemy there is a friend, it will take time, I know; but teach him if you can, that a dollar earned is of far more value than five found…. Teach him to learn to lose and also to enjoy winning. Steer him away from envy, if you can. Teach him the secret of quiet laughter. Let him learn early that the bullies are the easiest to lick… Teach him, if you can, the wonder of books… but also give him quiet time to ponder over the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun and flowers on a green hillside.

In school, teach him it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat… Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong… Teach him to be gentle with gentle people …

Speech by Chetan Bhagat at Symbiosis.......

Dear All, Below is the script of the speech given by famous author Chetan Bhagat at Symbiosis Institute. Hope you find it interesting. ******************

Don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.
There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.

"Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die. ……………….

IIM-A changes the recruitment process: A welcome move

Suffering from a very bad cold and cough and still trying to recover from yesterday's fever is exactly not an ideal setting to write the second blog of the day but, I just wanted this sunday to end on a note, where I can say that I did something worthwhile today.

A very welcome move by the top B-School of the country, "the realmccoy", IIM-A has changed the reruitment process of the school.
So instead of Day Zero and Day One, Two and Three; the recruitment will happen ,spread over a couple of months.
Now the recruiters will visit the campus on weekends during the placement season, spread over a couple of months. The way forward, instead of continiuos days, it would be now continious weekends of placements.

It takes away all the un-necessary pressures, not only on the students but also on the recruiters.
The students will have 5 days to rest between the two successive rounds of interviews and GDs, and no need to accept the offer on the spot.
So similarily, the companies also can …

I am not talking about the "Andamaan-Nicobar" Islands.
I am not talking about the famous movie of Dev Anand, also of the same name.
Then which is this 'Kaala-Paani"?

I have been in the habit of drinking both coffee and tea, minus the milk for a very long time now. It has now seeped in the blood. So whenever I have this urge to have a cuppa at a tapri in Bombay, by default I make them to make Black-tea.

The first time I tried out this was when I was in Chennai, and to my utmost surprise the guy made an awesome black-tea. And since then, I always ask for "Kaali- Chaai" at all the roadside tapris of Bombay whenever on the move.

Outside the Borivali West station, we have a store. It is one of the highest productive and profitable stores for us all across India and I invariably make it a point to visit it twice a week to make sure evrything is going right (also, this is very near to my abode).

Over there, just next to the NPD is a tea shop. The first time I went over…

Gospel from the guy who scored 100th Percentile in CAT 2009

The guy's name is Ameya Mhatre and he has scored 100th precentile in CAT 2009. To make it simple for the rookies, on his performance everybody else's performance is being relatively evaluated.

So what he did to be so successful?

1. Practise, Practise and Practise

2. Read the newspapers, analytically.

3. Organise your thoughts well each and everytime you have an opinion, so that when you are asked to write an essay, you do it well.

4. Maintain your cool and know what you are answering...

Bikhri bikhri si zulfein hain kyun....Nostalgic memories

The first time I listened to this song of "Whats your Rashee" movie was on the second night in London. My colleague Mazher had this song on his Blackberry Bold and since the moment I first listened to this song, I was hooked to it.

It struck my chords instantaneosuly.

I have already posted the full lyrics of this song earlier on this blog.
Such meaningful lyrics and completely a heart rending song, and the most important thing is that it reminds me of my days in UK.

When I came back ,after repeated tries of 3 days, I was able to download this particular song and since then its been the first song that I listen to everyday.

Whenever I play this song, it makes me nostalgic of my UK trip of November 2009.

Memories are forever....Just like this song....

And am gonna go to UK again this May, before my Visa expires.

Sadly cant play this song at Hilton in May 2010; like we did in November 2009, because cannot afford it anymore :-)

But then......Gum naa kar tu jo murjha gaye,
Phool khil jaaye…

"Aman ki Asha" of Times of India: What the f*** !!!

The power of media and press is indisputable and I strongly believe that it is the one thing which is keeping this country away from into total anarchy, by energising and awaking the lost and asleep citizens of this country.

But sometimes, it irritates and I fume when media goes overboard trying to make a paradigm change, just for the heck of it. One perfect example recently is that of the biggest daily "Times of India".

On 1st of Jan 2010, its first page cried..."Aman ki Asha"; friendship with Pakistan!!!

For what and why? It absolutely foxes me how the duo of Sameer and Vineet Jain can go insane?

So, like in the past, they had Lead India, and then they had Teach India, which all went into oblivion; after some time. ToI had to have some thing innovative this new year, I guess just for the heck of it.

Vineet and Sameer Jain must have thought that it is criminal for a newspaper like ToI not to have a new innovative campaign from a newspaper which is supposed to be an opi…

So my dear friend Janak, welcome to the gang...

Its indeed flattering and I am flattered too for that matter.
Today my dear friend and colleague, Janak Jariwala wrote his first blog and he mentioned in his first blog that he got inspired by me to start blogging.

Now this would be the first time that anybody got inspired by the shit that I write, but then as Forrest once said; shit happens, sometimes!!!
Anyways, Jerry; welcome to the gang and wish you all the best.

In 2005 when I started blogging it was just to express the pent up emotions of mines one various personal and non-personal events happening around and inside my life; and somehow strangely I wanted a few people to read that too. And strangely, they did too....
and so eventually, I kept on writing....

Guess, if they would not have read my initial blogs, then may be I would have not continued for almost 5 years and some 562 blogs published so far.

It is still the only official hobby that I have and so many a times I am glad to introduce myself as a blogger.

And for that matter, onc…

Now I am a proud owner of a pair of Walkie-Talkies from the National Geographic Store, London.

Its strange that my visit to Uk in November 2009 was the most exciting moments of my life and I dint wrote about it a word on my blog. May be I should just start, in installments.

You are dumb-struck while cruising through the Oxford Street and Regent Street, the best shopping destinations of the world. All the top brands of the world crave to have a space at Regent Street and its the world's most expensive shopping destination.

While cruising I saw so many brand shops but none of them enticed me to go in, till the moment I saw the store of National Geographic.

I resolved to come over there and shop at the last day. I have been always a big fan of National Geographic, since it came to India and so many a times I fantasised wandering into unknown like a NGC explorer.

One of the gadgets with which I was fascinated since the childhood was the "Walkie-talkie. I vividly remember a crude communicating instrument with match-box and string, which delivered voice crystal clear when the st…

I want to break free...

"I'm not gonna spend the rest of my life working my ass off and getting nowhere just because I followed rules that I had nothing to do with setting up!"

Thats what one of my friends wrote on his FB status today, and it perfectly echoed my sentiments. And with permission I copied the same too on my FB.

Its been a few years since I have been trying to break free. I once had balls to give away a settled and well-doing career and venture into unknown, 3 years back. I guess, I really had the balls. Most of the people termed me crazy, but I was hell-bent on giving it a shot and I did.
After all, you should not have regrets that you never gave it a shot. I did well, but then I failed in the ultimate objective to strike on my own.

The lessons which I learnt in that one year, invaluable. Building a Rs. 1 Crore a month business from scratch, fetched me as good as some additional two balls. It was all worth it.

Now its almost as I am so near and yet so far, the question which haunts me …

The hunger to join Stanford GSB has increased....

The urge to go to Stanford CA got stronger this week.I was at a Top 25 B School for campus recruitment and it was one the first visit by a "Forced Engineer" like me, to a B-School. What I wanted to do during my early years is to graduate in commerce and then join IIMs to complete the cycle ,but then, it was not to be.So here I was, an engineer by default trying to recruit managment graduates. And that too wearing a tie for the entire day!!!How fair and un-fair, I am still deliberating. But then management is nothing but common-sense( thats what my 10 years of experience says) and I was looking for exactly that. And Ladies and Gentlemen, Common-sense is really very un-common, even if you look into guys and gals of a top B School.Well, we did made 6 offers to the better of the lot at the end of the day. That day, my resolve to join Stanford GSB became much stronger. Somehow I may be just able to do a better job out there. The best part is that you have a better chance to be at S…

Got blessed by a customer today....

Well, this aint a Gospel anymore because everyone knows it but still its the biggest ever gospel for everyone even remotely related to consumerism and retail; direct and indirect. And it takes a bloody damn effort to keep it into practise.

A sunday in a retail company is by default a working day for all the operations guy and the best part is the learning experience which you get on the shop-floor, some magical and some disappointing; nonethless you become wiser and more saner.

Being a Sunday, I was at one of my stores today in the evening to lead from the front.

Its an intoxicating experience when the customers keep walking-in and you keep on converting them successfully. Since there was a sudden rush, so I also became a Sales-Associate and started my sales pitch to a family.
Apparently, the son wanted a particular handset and it was not difficult to sell that and in the meanwhile I kept on interacting with the father of the son, giving him numerous tips and soundbytes and when he gave …

The circle of life: Again after 12 years...

Life repeats itself, right?
Sometimes it may takes ages and sometimes 12 years...

So after 12 years, I watched two consecutive shows of a movie, back-to-back.
The last time I was so insane, I was in Engineering College on the way to become a forced engineer.
So since I had taken a day-off from work, I wanted to utilise it some better manner rather than sit in front of the laptop and reply to mails.

Everybody had already watched the movie 3 Idiots, and the review which I had read, plus this being an Aamir movie, had to watch.

So another first in my lifetime, I watched the 1130am show, what you call the matinee show, though this one was not in the strict sense of it.

Hell of a movie it is, 3 Idiots. the first thing I did after coming out of the screen theatre was to go to loo and second was to go to the box-office to book the next show.

I never felt so much thrilled in a long time, it was like history being re-created.

12 years back, it was "Krantiveer" of Nana Patekar. I along with co…

An all different New year day in life...

Now this is the second consecutive day I am writing after ages, and going by the way am writing; you can easily make out that may be I am writing just for the heck of it.

Yes, I am writing just for the heck of it.
So many times in life, infact most often we do things just for the heck of it, except getting in and out of this world.

So first time in my career of more than 9.5 years, I spent the 1st day of the year working. And this was obviously not by choice; to be truthful. since there was no partying the previous night as I wrote earlier , so the task was easier; but then to break the monotony of sleeping the whole day on 1st of January was difficult.

It could be just a kind of signal from the heavens that am gonna slog hard this year, considering that I want the year 2010 to be the year of "PriceSticker",could still be true.

For a change again also, had a fabulous lunch with my colleagues in the afternoon; that might be again a signal that I shall be socialising more in 2010 a…

New year eve: A time to reflect on your life...

Everybody is partying on new year-eve with all the rightful reason, but sadly leaves no time to reflect on the year that went past and what you want to do in the year to come, if you survive ie.

I have been also a victim of this partying binge since the year I came to mumbai, rocking and rolling in 5 stars and 7 stars hotels in 5 of the last 7 years in this city and next day found that it was sheer waste of the time.

So this time, I wanted it to be a bit different and introspect for a couple of hours before the new year starts. Both over the past life and the past year specifically.

It is too little a time to do that but one of the best moments, when you are just forced to do that because of the situation and you are completely in frame of mind to do that.

So, I spent new year eve completely alone at my abode with just some soothing music coming out of my lappy and sitting with a piece of paper and pencil; just jotting some random thoughts.
Revelations, not very surprising;insights, defini…
